I would like to treasure the feelings of tenderness and shame and hurt and love and anxiety and giving and fear – all the positive and negative reactions that crop up. I like the behavioural impulses – appropriate, crazy, achievement-orientated, sexual, murderous. I want to accept all of these feelings, ideas, and impulses as an enriching part of me. I don’t expect to act on all of them, but when I accept them all, I can be more real

The Paradox of Femen.

Paradox no 1: Femen are distracting from the message because men are not becoming convinced that women are oppressed, they’re just enjoying the topless display.

Paradox no 2: These topless events and the majority of the often air-brushed photos are full of young, beautiful, slender women – narrow ideals are something feminism has long fought against.

Paradox no 3: Many many Muslim women have been insulted in the process of Femen’s attempts to expose **WHAT THEY SEE** as the spiritual enslavement of women.

Paradox no 4: Femen generalise about the institutions they say oppress women and disregard the choice of women to engage in the cultural practices of their religion.

Paradox no 5: Femen bring an atmosphere of ‘man-hate’, especially when one looks at their website and finds a photo-shopped pic of an airbrush, beautiful topless girl holding a man’s testicles in one hand and a sickle in the other. That is not equality that is sexual assault of a very violent nature.
